Subject: Less engine wear with synthetics? IP: Logged
Message: Question for anyone with REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE. Not the flamers. With all conditions being equal, Do you get less engine wear with a synthetic oil vs. a dino oil?

Use a good synthetic and "forget about it". Most of the vehicle manufacturers are switching to factory fill synthetics. If there was not positive evidence of true benefits of using synthetics they would not be switching. IMHO

Thanks to "Amsoil_Man" that posted my link earlier. Good to know somebody's got my back in my absence.
First (on a daily basis):
In the Winter, ... all synthetics are superior than dino; in warm weather, it depends on the additive package; In extreme Summer (HOT) conditions ... again I think this is where the "better" Synthetic Oil's have a distinct advantage. Some synthetic's perform better than others. I think that extreme winter and/or extreme summer is where "superior" full synthetic brands stand out.
Second (long term effects):
I think another advantage of "superior" synthetics is a reduction in engine deposits. It is this buildup of deposits over time, particularly in the piston ring and valve areas, that tends to degrade the performance of engines once they reach high mileage.
I do think synthetics provide lower wear rates under any and all conditions ... but the real test is how they hold up under severe driving / service conditions ... or operating in very cold winter and / or very hot summer climates.
