Message: Most good brand name speakers will be WAY better than your old stock ones. I personally prefer Boston Acoustics, but there are many good quality speakers out there from many different brands. You won't need to spend a fortune on speakers if you are not going to use an external amplifier. I suggest buying component speakers for the fronts(separate woofer, tweeter, and external crossovers), and coaxials for the rears(tweeter, woofer, and crossover are all made together) I would get the same model speakers front and rear, just in the two different configurations aforementioned. You want to get speakers with very good bass response since you are not using subwoofers. Also, metal coned woofers and hard domed tweeters can be very fatiguing to your ears after long listening periods. Go to crutchfield.com. They have alot of info and can tell you exactly what speakers fit your truck. Read all the info they have on speakers; you can learn alot and make a good purchasing decision. Get back with me and I'll tell you a great easy way to install them using the factory spacers.

Message: The only components that I have ever heard are Infinity's and Alpines and they sound great. I love component systems. I will probably get an external amp for them though, just to make them that much better.

Message: in my club cab I have a great component system in the doors: the Diamond Audio M661 set. Back then it was the two 6.5" aluminum speakers, two tweeters, and the two crossovers for like $180. Looks like this set has been replaced by the D661.
I put some two-way speakers that I had laying around in the rear, and the MTX thunderform sub box under the back seat with the thunder 6000 subs for now. I temporarily put a Power Acoustik LT980 amplifier for the subs (only 560W RMS @ 4 ohms), with the speakers running off my Sony deck, but it sounds great with this amp, so I am in no rush to get a bigger one. It doesn't set off car alarms a block away but it sounds really good inside the truck, and the back seat passengers love a nice butt-massage.
My equalizer is nearly flat because I don't really need it due to the crossovers. All in all, I spent about $1000 from stock sound to this, but did all the work myself.
P.S. My stereo has built in Sub outputs with a sub adjustment in the sound options, which comes in VERY handy when I want more or less bass. Some amps come with a dial that you can attach to your dash for the same purpose.

Message: I have Alpine Type R 6 1/2" components in my front doors as well. They sound great but were not inexpensive. I put Alpine Type S coaxial 6 1/2's in the rear and they sound really good too. They are driven by an amp with about 100 watts per channel. I really do like the Alpine's sound. Had them for 3 years now, and have had no problems with them. Well worth the money...
