I plan to get a new head unit for my 99, but I cannot stand the look of those install kits that make a single DIN HU fit in the 1.5 DIN slot. I know Pioneer makes a 1.5 DIN HU, but it isnt as full featured as the latest single DIN models. Are there any other options for making a single DIN unit fit besides the usual unit in the middle with a black plastic piece surrounding it to fill up the rest of the space? Thanks.

I hate the adapter kits also, so I got a Pioneer 1 1/2 DIN unit, it had all the features I wanted.
My other option was to install a 1 DIN HU and a 1/2 DIN EQ below it. It would have required fabricating some custom brackets, but it would have looked nice.
