Subject: MP3 Headunit IP: Logged
Message: Hi Guys...new Dakota owner here looking for advice on a stereo upgrade. I just got an 04 Quad Cab 4.7 AWD and got the single cd stereo. I want to upgrade the headunit (damned 1.5 din) and it seems if you want mp3 you have to go single din. Im wondering which unit matches the dash best both the dash color and the lights. Prefer knobs for volume and tuning, the bigger the better, dont really care for a fancy display with a silly screen saver picture thing.
Advice appreciated

With these models the color of the illumanation can be changed to match the interior lights.
I went with the mounting kit that has a CD storage slot under the unit and it looks really good.

Message: Hey Bowtie-ZL1 how do you like the alpine deck I'm looking at the same one. I was looking at one but the LED back lights are really bright(blue), how do you find it for night driving?

Message: There is a Dim setting in "setup" and you can change the color through "user illnmination".
I love the deck, I wish it was easier to make changes to the EQ butother than that, no complaints.

Message: I have the same deck, and its great. The color's are a little bright at night, but its AOK. The X-Over and Equilizers are great, but they take a little bit of time to tune and get the sound you are looking for.

Message: Yea, Alpines are definitely a great deck. That would have been my choice, but being on a budget I opted for the next best thing.
If anyone is looking to spend a little bit less but and have sound quality *almost* as good as Alpine, the Pioneer 4600 mp3 deck is really good for the money. I've had it for a few weeks and have no complaints other than the display being a little bit too bright at night. For $175 you can't go wrong!!

Message: I liked the Alpines as well, I just didn't like that they stood out more than the Kenwood Excelon that I picked up. $299, MP3 capability.
