Running a Detroit Locker (or ARB) on the street is just asking for problems....too harsh on the differential assembly for normal street use. Bernd D. I like the BFG All Terrain I have now (235/75) so I plan on staying with BFG, I don't know if I should use 31x10.5 or 32x11.5. Another concern I have is the required 3 3/4" backspacing on the new rims, how much tire am I going to have sticking outside of the wheel wells? I also need to change the gearing in the rear-end, right now it is 3.21 (3.9 V6). I also want posi on the rear. Should I just get a 3.55 or 3.90 4x4 posi rear from a salvage yard so I don't have to mess with the gears and I won't have to do the add-a-leaf since the 4x4's are sprung above the axle? |
Bernd GenIII 2/19/2001 10:55:24 | RE: 2WD Owners - 1997+ IP: Logged Message: If you want to run the 32" tires, you'll need a 2" body lift along with the suspension lift. On the rims, they stick out a little bit over an inch...actually looks good. On the gearing, yes...you will have to change the 3.21 setup to a 3.90:1. It may cost less to just install a LSD unit with 3.90:1 gears. As for the rear springs, you will need to refabricate the spring shackles for the leafs...cutting, rewelding, it's just not worth it. The add-a-leaf sets the truck at the perfect level with the front...running a spring-over conversion may put the rear end too high or still not high enough. Fabtech did their homework on this kit...their system works excellent as is. Bernd D. Ratsch 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT Supercharged w/Nitrous |

I have been looking at lowering kits that range from 2-3, 3-5, to 4-6. I like how the truck looks with the 3-5 and 4-6 but I want to know will I be sacrificing any performance like pick up and overall drag race performance with those kinda kits? what would be better to do? with performance in mind?
