I like the site so far but lets get down to my concerns.

OK i want to know who to get my intake from for my 99 318 and, which one is better for the dodge, MSD or Jacobs?

Thanks

MSD. There's been a lot of complaints on the R/T list about the Jacobs system...and the MSD doesn't require an extra cost for an extended warranty...just send it in and they'll fix it.

On the Intake, either the QuickD (http://www.quickd.com) or the K&N Gen-II (http://www.knfilters.com). Tony (QuickD) has them for about $140 and the K&N system is about $220. The K&N uses a larger, 4" redesigned intake tube and airhat while the QuickD uses a 3.5" intake tube mated to the stock airhat.

While you're working on the intake, check out the TB from Flometrics: http://www.flometrics.com/TBhomepage.html. Dyno proven to increase HP by at least 10-15HP. (Tested on a 3.9/5.2/5.9L...I ran the 3.9L test)

I wouldn't waste money on the TB spacer. Everyone i've talked to who put them on a Magnum engine gained no performance. it actually slowed a friend of mine down.

I agree...I actually Dyno Tested the PowerJunk spacer - 0HP and 0MPG increase. (Made a nice whistling noise though.)

The AirAid intake system is much better than stock...check out http://www.quickd.com before you make the decision though. (A modified Throttle Body does wonders for the V6's as well.)

The V8's don't seem to respond as well to the Jet-II. Stick with the Mopar PCM. (You'll have to run 92 octane though...that's recommended by Mopar on their PCM.)

Honestly, no one that I know of (with the Mopar PCM) has complained about the MPG. The "fun factor" does go up. Cost...check with this site:

installed poweraid throttle body spacer on 99 V6 Dakota and there was a noticable increase in power in passing and going up steep hills (on road). keeping in mind this is a basic stock truck
the only mods being replacement K&N airfilter, magnaflow muffler and ramair into air box. the more mods that are done introduces the factor of redundent returns in power and mpg.

Doug,

Be careful that you don't get taken in by the Poweraid Spacer...we Dyno tested the spacer on my 3.9L (before the Supercharger) and also several other members have tried them on their 5.2 and 5.9L engines. The don't work...no gains on the Dyno and no gains in MPG.

all i know for sure is what this configuration has done for this Dakota. when you tested this you said befor the supercharger but was this done with one of your modified T.B.'s installed? If so possible the mods to the T.B.'s negate the effect of the spacer. Just a thought. have now added jet stage 2 modual, have to evaluate. Try not to get taken in by most anything.

We had tested it with my old, stock V6 TB and no Jet-II (almost a year ago). After installing the modified TB, it was worse on performance. Seriously, if it does "feel" like it's working for you, great. But, I would highly recommend that you look into a modified TB instead since the HP and, in some cases, MPG gains are much more than any spacer. Keep in mind that the most restrictive part on our intake system is the manifold.

The theory behind the spacers is an old, known, trick...increase the height and increase the velocity. Again, this works well on TBI systems (and the old Carbureted systems) but not on MPI. Plus, on our manifolds, we have a 1" space with an approximate 180 degree U-Turn that the air must make before entering the cylinder head. This defeats the purpose of the spacer. (If our manifolds were a "straight shot" to the cylinders, then they would work.)

Thanks for the info. Possibly in 6 months i can go with the modified T.B. which would you recommend for both economy and increased power.

For the budget minded: QuickD

For the Horsepower Freaks (like me): Flometrics

Both will increase the HP but the MPG increase is vehicle/application depending. (Some see better mileage, other don't see any changes but still more power...either way, ya don't loose.)

I have a 1999 4x2 5.9L Durango.Mopar does not list a PCM for a 4x2. Does anyone know if a PCM for a 1999 4x4 will work? If not, what can I do to get the performance of the PCM? I currently have a JetII chip, but suspect that the PCM would perform better.
