 Subject: oil light need helpIP: Logged Message: This is my first time here and I own a 1996 Dakota 4X4 and lastnight while driving my oil light came on and my pressure was gone, I heard what sounded like a ticking sound from under the hood. When i would stop or let off the gas oil pressure would slowly start rising but as soon as I started to accelerate again oil pressure would drop. If anyone can give me some information on what is wrong with my truck it would help alot. Thanks alot Scott |

The description you gave sounds just like it is a little TOO low, and when you let off more will flow back to the pan/sump & bring the pressure back. Otherwise, being a '96 it could have a lot of miles & being 4x4 they could've been rough... Which engine is it? The oil pump might be suspect... but I had similar symptoms when the backflow check valve sucked itself into my 2.2's block! It did no harm, and the pressure was actually there; but it was so annoying I rebuilt the engine anyway to get it out (I figure once every 12 years or 200,00 miles whether it needs it or not!) |

It's the 5.2L V8 engine, with only 35,000 miles, I'm the only one to ever drive the truck since i bought it with 0 miles on it, and it has been babbied. So im guessing its either a bad pump or valve, any thing else i should check?/ Thanks for the help |
