 Subject: Larger Tires and LiftIP: Logged Message: I am going to be putting on a 3inch fabtech lift and adding 32/11.50R15 tire to my 2000 4.7 xtra cab 2wd. I was wondering if the 3.55 rear end will still be ok, or do I need to change it to the rear end that is in the 4wd 3.9something. Also what about the speedo. Thanks Brian |
| chris GenIII  1/05/2001 14:15:59 | RE: Larger Tires and Lift IP: Logged Message: If it's a 98 or later...the dealership can fix the speedo(done electronically)..if its a 97 or earlier i think the best you can do is to get a speedo gear from your local auto parts store and try to match your setup as best as possible..i liked Bernds idea of having a friend run next to you on the highway and just make mental adjustments from there. I would say that the 3.55 gear should still be ok...did you get the suspension lift or a body lift??..i got the body lift on mine and it still runs great with stock rear end. One word of caution though...on the '97-'99 models, you need to change the rims to have a backspacing of no more than 3.75" The factory rims will not work on these models...found that out the hard way. | chris GenIII 1/06/2001 00:25:52 | RE: Larger Tires and Lift IP: Logged Message: Sean, You have a couple options...1. body lift, 2. suspension lift...if you have the funds, the suspension lift looks a lot better...i chose to get a body lift because it's cheaper and totally removable(sounded good at the time, this was my first truck and i was not real sure i would want to keep it)...that's your best bet, if you are just going for the "look"..but for any true off-roading you may plan, I'd go with a suspension lift...the disadvantages I have are that since i put 33"s on stock rims, they rub if I turn too far..i'd suggest 32"s.either way check out Fabtech...they are the best out right now..I'd go with a 3" body lift and 32's or 33's Chris DeCrease 97 Dak 3.9 Sport 5-sp 3"Body Lift 33"BFG TA ko's |

With a 3" body lift and the Fabtech kit, you can easily run 33" tires. On your '97 Chris, you will need different rims...the factory ones will rub on the new control arms. I was thinking 2" body lift w. 31" tires, I don't want to make a statement, however, I want it to have an off-road look without having to make any other adjustments (just the tires and lift) also, if this is a smart move, what makes and prices am I looking out for? or if you have a better suggestion, feel free.I don't want to spend too much... |
