Subject: Tuneup-Braking-Bla bla bla IP: Logged Message: Howdy, I feel the dak needs a tuneup and upgrade. I just turned 20k miles on the 2000 V6 and have not done anything to the engine except: oil changes and 87 octane gas. I put a flowmaster on her. There is a quickd intake on it's way over. I know I should read the manual, which I will, for tuneup instructions. Any heads up info? Like check for leaking this and make sure that is not melting etc... I am peeved at the braking system as well. I have a 2wd cc rear wheel anti lock. The damn system shakes the hell out of the truck when I'm braking. It just may be the anti lock 'way' but it sucks, can't be normal. I'm hoping stock brake pads or something are the culprit. When I turn the truck off(with or w/o running A/C) there is a drip noise under the hood followed by the sound of what ever is dripping being vaporized by something very hot. Should I worry? What are those good spark plugs...autolite_#### something? Another peeve: High pitched whine, it happens when I am on the freeway when I am between 72-76 MPH. It sounds like it is coming from the rear right. I can't exactly jump out of the truck on the freeway to pinpoint the sound though. How do I get any recall fixed? Should I go to the local dealer (dealer is close, in my dictionary, to having the same meaning as 'torture chamber') and say fixer up? I'll have a flowmaster quickd intake jetII setup pretty soon. I got scared off the t-stat mod because I heard it involves draining fluids, I can't do that, I'm a dunce when it comes to engines and my only tools are a ratchet set with the words 'big boys toolbox' on it. Hardly impressive. What other fluids need be changed out? What brands do you replace them with? Roller Rockers...What are those? What's wrong with the stock ones? MSD ignition mod...is this do-able by me and my 'lil helper' toolbox? In a parking lot too, I have no garage access. Suspension- man- on certain freeways with certain run-off dips, the truck bounces so much. I know I have not weight in the back, and IT'S A TRUCK but Billstein help me out on this issue? Will fabtech's lift kit? will a future addition of a fabtech lift kit negate a Billstein attempt to smooth the ride a bit? This is my second vehicle. I admit I am a complete idiot when it comes to vehicle up-keep. Please help me out beyond or including information in the manual, which I haven't read...yet. OR Just tell me to RTFM! Thanks for all the help! |

(5) Roller Rocker Arms: Reduced friction and better engine performance (revs slightly faster) - 1.6:1 is the stock ratio (I run those) and the 1.7:1 have been showing about 10-20HP more. (6) MSD Ignition: Digital-6+ is the best one out there (has options for future upgrades)...can be done in the driveway with simple hand tools. (7) Suspension: Yup, those factory shocks make it ride worse than a 20-year-old Cadillac (with bad shocks). ;) ProComp ES9000's are an inexpensive EXCELLENT replacement...much firmer and increase the handling characteristics as well. (8) RTFM: That helps. ;) Hope that helps.... Bernd D. Ratsch 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT Supercharged w/Nitrous |
