Subject: Fuel Injectors IP: Logged Message: I have a 95 X-Cab Auto V6. I have heard that by going to a bigger injector you get more power. That's kinda obvious, my question is what lb/hr are the stock V6 and what is the best size to go with. Mods are K&N open element, FLowmaster dumped, V8 TB, Accel 8mm wires, MSD Blaster Coil, Autolite 3923, 180 T'Stat. I have seen several people use Ford Injectors, will adding a set of stock mustang injectors work? |
Bernd GenIII 1/18/2001 17:01:12 | RE: Fuel Injectors IP: Logged Message: The sotck injectors are 19#. On the '97-99 they're the same as well but are being "pushed" at 49psi (+/-5psi) to about 20-21#. Adding 24# injectors would be a good step but, unless Supercharged or Nitrous'ed, not required and would require some reprogramming to handle the different pulse-width requirements for the 24#. What you can do in install a set of the Ford Motorsports 19# Injectors. They're a matched set with a flowrate variance of about .5-1% (instead of the 10-15% variance of the stock injectors). I ran the FMS 19# injectors for quite some time before switching to the 24# for the Supercharger. (My 19# set was sold to another person with a '96 model and they're working excellent on his a well.) I have seen the 19# injectors in SUmmit for 200. Will the ones off a 5.0 Mustang do the same? My truck is slow off the line. after 3000 it picks up great. i am trying to increase the off-idle acceleration. |
Bernd GenIII 1/18/2001 21:28:55 | RE: Fuel Injectors IP: Logged Message: If you compare the injector variances: 10-15% (Stock) vs. .5-1% (FMS) then you'll understand that there is some HP to be gained from a set of matched injectors. What the variance does is offset the amount of fuel being introduced into the cylinder as compared to the other(s). This can cause lean or rich conditions in the cylinders which in turn causes HP losses. Yes, the FMS 19# Injectors for a 5.)L Mustang are exatly the ones that others (along with myself) have been using. The injectors are Bosch and have the same impedance as ours. (Also Bosch) Bernd D. Daniel D GenII 1/20/2001 15:06:56 | RE: Fuel Injectors IP: Logged Message: Will the stock 5.0 Mustang work? I am several friends that drive mustang 5.0 and i work at Auto Zone. I can also maby find some used ones that someone took out. Any idea of how much hp, and will mpg go down? Thanks for the Info Bernd, you have been extremely helpful. |
Bernd GenIII 1/20/2001 15:51:55 | RE: Fuel Injectors IP: Logged Message: They will, but the stock replacments are not a matched set...get the Ford Motorsports Injectors. With the matched set, the MPG may go up and the HP will go up a few numbers (1-3HP). You will notice better acceleration though. Bernd D. Ratsch 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT Supercharged w/Nitrous |

I'm curious, are these a recommended replacement for a stock engine for better fuel economy and performance? If so, what do they cost and where can they be found? I've got a '97 5-speed standard cab 2WD. Bedford, TX |
