Hey all , just wondering .. what is the smallest
sub-woofer available , 'cause I'd like to put 'em
in place of my rear OEM speakers, right now I
have a 10" "rock" w/box sitting on my rear seat
and it takes up too much room. :)

The smallest sub I've heard of is a 6" or 6.5" size. Check out some audio site like JL Audio, MTX, etc, etc.

Kove Audio makes a 6" downward firing thatt
will fit under your passenger seat. I would
think that putting a sub in your doors would
vibrate them to death.

If any of you replace your rear speakers in a Club Cab with subs, would you mind taking a few pictures and posting them? I want subs but use all the storage space under my rear seat already and don't know where I could fit a set.

Hey 2001 Dakota QuadCab Owners, you can put a 8" sub behind the rear passenger seat. You will not be able to put the seat up after you install it. If you are a audio enthusiast you will appreciate the boom. Qlogic sales the box. Just make sure you buy the box that is 61/2 inches deep and the amp can go behind the passenger side rear seat. I have had my amp there for a couple of months now have not had any problems with over heating.I am using a Ifinity Kappa Amp (54A) and it is about15" long and I had to mount it transverse. It took some work , but I was able to put a sony 10 disc changer under front passenger seat. If you do not have a power seat in your dak, you might be able to put the amp there. JL 8w3 works real nice if you have the right amp for the job. get a 4 channel amp and you have leave yourself a extra channel to use later.Sound off competition here i come!

Diamond, do you know what the model number is for the Qlogic box? I wasn't sure if I found the right one or not. Also, whats a good sub amp for the JL 8x3? I dont need extra channels, I just need it fir the sub alone.

Thanks!!

Actually the smallest sub-woofers are the Focal 5". They are classed as a sub and not just a plain old woofer.

I plan on doing some modding and putting 12"s in the side walls of my '02 CC. One on each side. Gonna mould in the boxes and shave off the ends of the seats so I can still lift them. Thinking about putting the amps under the rear seats.

I have a MTX thunderform box in my '01 CC that replaces the tool tray. fits nicely under the rear seats and i heard that you can put JL 10w3 10' speakers in it to get a better sound. the thunderform with the MTX thunder 6000 speakers is pretty decent though.

Though the MTX Thunderform box does fit nicely and sounds "decent" if you are really looking to install a quality sub(s) without taking up any needed space for seat adjustments including the rear bench, get yourself to a good car audio shop, and tell them to build you a custom box that fits under your rear bench. This is what I did, and I had them install 1 8" Kicker Solobaric Sub into the custom box. If you dont already know the Solobarics are SQUARE, thus this 8" sub has a greater surface are than a regular round sub. (SQUARE > 8"*8" = 64sq" while
Round > 3.14(pie)*[4"(radius)squared] = 50.3sq"
The design of the sub makes it able to work in a smaller box than normal 8". I am using a two chanel 500W Memphis amp bridged to a single channel which is extreamly small for its power and performance and fits quite nicely under the driver side seat. My sub hits hard bro. It even suprised me when I first heard it. I have a Clarion head unit and am currently in the process of installing two Polk Audio Components(Mid and Tweater)with crossovers, that I plan to power with a 2 chanel 120W Sony amp going under my passanger seat. I ran into a problem though. My head unit has two RCA outputs, so I have one going to my Memphis amp and I am using the other for my Sony that is powering just the front Polk Compontents, or at least is suppose to. I hooked up the Sony Amp(solid ground connection, solid power source, and hooked up the Remote from my Head Unit to the Sony amp after disconnecting it from the Memphis just to see if it worked.) Well only the left speaker works. the Remote wire leads from the head unit where it is then spliced with one running to my exsisting stock Dodge Infinity amp in the right foot panel and the other going to my Sony. Once I fix the problem I want to run the second remote wire to my Memphis and then run a Remote wire from it to the Sony. Why is this happening and does anyone have a clue what to do. I want to use the factory Infinity amp to power my rear speakers, the new Sony amp under passanger seat to power the new Polk Components that came with Crossovers for the front speakers and my Memphis amp (that is bridged) to power my Kicker Solobaric sub. Help please.

im prsently building a fiberglass enclosure for a supercab f-150. fits in the center console iminstalling an 8" soloberic. when all is said and done i'll still have a 1'x 6" space to throw junk. we recently built a box for a tahoe same setup in center console, it slammed. the base was tight and clean and verry loud. only had 200watts going to it. my last car had two rockford he2 12's in a large vented enclosure tuned @ 36.5 hrz. with 2 1200 watt rockfors amps.used in local comps never finished lower than 3rd in my class. i decided i wanted to be able to hear when im fourty so i sold it. and the car.

I am designing a set of brackets for the rear seats that will extend the base of the seats outward allowing more room behind the rear seats. It shoild allow for ample room for 2 12's or 2 10's with the ability to fold the seats still.

I believe that the other posts are correct in that the smallest sub is about 5" - 6" in size.
You probably should not mount them in the doors. Even though they are small, they still need a good enclosure in order to reprduce sound well.
You might look into getting a custom center console built which will be able to fit a single 8" or 10" sub and be hidden well.

The smallest is an 8 and after that you will be getting a mid-bass driver, they still call them woffers but check out the frequency rating on anything smaller, they just dont get past the 80's with a high db rating. they will say 20-20k but that 20 to 90's will be way below hearing in terms of db's.
